If you’re staring at a murky and dirty swimming pool, it may be time to speak to Peachy Pools! The health risks of swimming in a dirty pool can be abund. Cooling down in a pool during the summer is appealing, but safety should always be first.
Many different types of bacteria and germs are consistently present in your pool, making it a potential source of sickness for people who like spending time in the water for fun. The contaminated water in swimming pools, spas, lakes, and other bodies of water can be a channel for transmitting different diseases. Swimmer’s ear, skin rashes, and diarrhea are all a few possible illnesses and ailments.
Most recreational water infections are caused by the contamination of water that happens when a sick person carrying germs enters a pool. In other circumstances, these infections are caused by the growth of naturally occurring bacteria in the water to infectious levels.
To help you out, we have identified these three signs that your pool may not be maintained very well:
Cloudy of dirty pool water.
Only get in a pool if the water is completely clear and sparkling. Not only does murky water equal poor maintenance, but low visibility can equal danger. You should also keep an eye out for damaged or missing drain covers, which are designed to prevent entrapment (when someone is sucked under the water by the pool’s strong suction from the filtration system’s water circulation system).
Aquatic algae are proliferating.
Blue-green algae generate deadly cyanobacteria and can thrive in improperly sterilised swimming pools, especially in sun-drenched places. Green is the colour of the slimy, often foul-smelling layer that floats on the water’s surface; always check the pool surface before swimming and if there is an unpleasant odour, do not swim nor allow your pets to enter the water.
Overabundance of guests
Public swimming pools are not places where “the more, the merrier” usually applies. It’s simple logic that more swimmers mean more potential for disease-causing pathogens to enter the water supply. The same applies when having too many guests in your own pool, ensure to maintain your pool after any larger gatherings or parties where swimming is a must!
